f-11 news: Leo Lam, Erin Tinsley hosts fundraiser for Gulf Restoration Network

August 14th, 2010

Clean Coast Fundraiser by Erin Tinsley & Leo Lam

Clean Coast Fundraiser by Erin Tinsley & Leo Lam

f-11 photographer Leo Lam, international plus fashion model Erin Tinsley at Heffner Management and commercial photographer Dean Zulich of VH1 “The Shot” fame, will host a fundraiser to benefit the cleanup efforts from the Deep Horizon Oil Disaster.

Ms. Tinsley started the Erin’s Gulf Recovery Fund not long after the incident.  Besides the fund raising effort, she is also donating her modeling income in August and will travel to New Orleans soon to volunteer for the Gulf Restoration Network.  Unbeknown to many in the creative industry, Leo is also a Lecturer in Electrical Engineering and a researcher in sustainable energy.  Frustrated by the disaster and moved by Erin’s compassion towards the living creatures affected, he joined Erin at her first request.

The fundraiser evening will feature fellow f-11 photographer Keith Allen Phillips‘ firsthand photographs from Florida, showing the devastation it caused the famous Pensacola Beach.  It will also feature photographs from our friend, photographer Nick Zantop who went to the Gulf area and returned with photographs that the media missed, showing the true devastation.

One hundred percent of the proceeds raised at this event will go to the Gulf Restoration Network.

Tickets are $25 and will include a silent auction, two raffle tickets, hors d’oeuvres, gallery viewing and unlimited drinks for the evening.  Auction items by The Seattle Seahawks, Bowie Salon and Spa, Snoqualmie Ridge Golf Club, Jak’s Grill, Hailey’s Cupcakes and more.

ABOUT THE GULF RESTORATION NETWORK:

The Gulf Restoration Network’s vision is that the Gulf of Mexico will continue to be a natural, economic, and recreational resource that is central to the culture and heritage of five states and three nations. Within this vision, we see the mission of the GRN as one of uniting and empowering people to protect and restore the resources of the Gulf Region for future generations. To this end, the GRN works to provide technical support and mentoring to grassroots groups, to connect our members to developments on national and regional issues of importance to their work, and to provide coordination, when needed, of member activities across the region.

The Gulf Restoration Network is a 501(c)3 organization and all donations are tax deductible.

We have decided to dedicate the proceeds of the second volume of f-eleven books (f-eleven volume 2) to Autism Research .

We would also try to promote awareness regarding Fragile X Syndrome in our up coming photography book.

.

The Autism Research Institute (ARI) is the hub of a worldwide network of parents and professionals concerned with autism.

ARI was founded in 1967 to conduct and foster scientific research designed to improve the methods of diagnosing, treating, and preventing autism.

ARI also disseminates research findings to parents and others worldwide seeking help. The ARI data bank, the world’s largest, contains over 40,000 detailed case histories of autistic children from over 60 countries.

ARI publishes the Autism Research Review International, a quarterly newsletter covering biomedical and educational advances in autism research.

f-11 news: “RED” for supplementaire magazine by Wolf189

January 10th, 2010

Video preview of RED editorial (18+) by WOLF189 featuring model Crash.
Exclusively for supplementaire magazine with music by Fung Lam.

I had the pleasure of collaborating with Fung Lam ( brother of our own Leo Lam, a f-11 member) during making this video/slide show preview of RED editorial for supplementaire magazine.

Here is a little about this talented composer, Fung Lam:

With the premiere of his 23-minutes orchestral work Unlocking in 2008, Fung Lam became not only the first composer commissioned to compose a new work specifically for BBC Radio 3’s Discovering Music programme, but also the youngest Chinese composer ever to have been commissioned by the BBC.

Ranging from original concert and media works to various arrangements, sometimes involving both Western and Chinese instruments, his music has been performed around the world, including festivals such as the Cheltenham Music Festival, BASBWE International Wind Festival, Soundwaves Festival, Second Glance Festival, Musicarama Festival, Le French May, Asian Composers’ League Asian Music Festivals in 2003, 2004 and 2007, and the inaugural BBC Electric Proms in 2006.

Born in Hong Kong in 1979, Fung currently resides and works in London.  His teachers have included Martin Butler, Michael Finnissy and Michael Zev Gordon.

*************************

We have started discussing our plans for our f-eleven book volume 2 and the charity that it would be dedicated to.
.
Meanwhile please click on the f-eleven book volume 1 located on the top right side of blog to preview it and perhaps order it.
.
We still haven’t decided if we are going to discontinue offering the first volume after our second Volume is out or not and who knows it might become a collectible item, so this is your chance to own a very diverse photography book while offering your help to a worthy cause “Friends Without a Border” charity.
.
Thank you for all of your supports.

Cheers

The concepts of f – eleven books

January 6th, 2010

from f - eleven book , image by Dave Rudin

The first collaborative book of  f-11 was simply named f – eleven .

We were not sure if we were going to make another book.

But since then we have received a lot of heart warming feed backs that has made us to go forward with this project.

The main concepts of these big volumes of f – eleven books, are going to be hidden in the act of making them … a subtle statement against the typical photography book collections out there.

We won’t try to please a very specific group or taste. We’ll try to show case solid photography works made by our own members in any genre, compiled in a coherent to semi coherent design. (  f-11 is a private photography group. to apply please feel free to contact info@wolf189.com )

In our “big” (I’ll explain later what I mean by that) volumes, we’ll try to bring a rather diverse collection of images in various styles and from different genres together and yet try to make a subtle sense of connection among them.

This could be a rather ambitious plan but for now, that would be the main concept of these bigger f – eleven volumes.

On the same hand we will try to donate the profits of each book’s sale to a charity and promote such charities’ causes along side our books.

Now to explain the difference between big volumes and other potential volumes :

There might come a time that we feel like promoting a singular concept or style such as street photography, editorial fashion or fine art nude…in such occasions we will put smaller issues together but we still try to compile a variety of points of view within those genres.

The profits of those smaller volumes will also go towards different charities…the only difference would be their contents and their smaller sizes.

Come along with us in this exciting journey…support us in our goals to create new conceptual values for photography books while supporting a variety of worthy charities.

Thank you for all of your supports.

Cheers
